MP4 to Screenshots

Drop in an MP4, pick how many screenshots you want, and the tool decodes the file in your browser to produce clean stills. Works with the H.264 and H.265 codecs found in nearly every MP4.

Your video stays on your device. Frames are generated locally in the browser.

MP4 is the most common video container on the web — phone recordings, screen captures, and streamed downloads all default to it. Because browsers decode MP4 natively, this tool can extract frames from MP4 files at full quality without re-encoding.

Use it for thumbnails, social-post stills, tutorial step shots, or just to grab a single great moment from a long recording.

Looking for the main page? extract frames from video covers the full workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with H.264 and H.265?+

Yes. The tool uses your browser's native decoder, which handles H.264 universally and H.265 in most modern browsers.

What about MP4 files with no audio?+

Audio is ignored — only the video track is decoded for frames, so silent MP4s work exactly the same as files with sound.

Can I screenshot a specific timestamp in the MP4?+

The tool samples evenly or by FPS. For a single exact moment, pick Count mode with a high number, find the closest frame in the preview, then download just that one.
